You can register as a supervisor only if you are research active, as defined by this Research Active Policy

To comply with the Higher Education Standards Framework, supervisors must access and complete this training, either online or in person.
-
If you attend in person, the training session will last four hours
-
If you complete the training online, you might need between two and six hours, depending on your experience
-
You will be invited to complete this training every four years.

Throughout the year, supervisors can attend these monthly workshops each lasting two hours. Specifically
-
during one hour, supervisors can share challenges they have experienced and potential solutions, facilitated by an experienced supervisor or specialist
-
during the other hour, a specialist will present insights about a specific topic—each designed to help supervisors assist their most challenging candidates and to save time
These topics may include
-
how to read drafts and deliver feedback more rapidly
-
how to address suicidal ideation, depression, aggression, and other mental health problems as well as inspire candidates
-
how to resolve conflict and avoid litigation
-
how to support Indigenous candidates, international candidates, remote candidates, and diverse candidates more effectively
-
how to prepare more effective meetings and enhance the skills of candidates more efficiently
-
how to attract and to select the best applicants
-
how to increase the likelihood your candidates receive a scholarship—such as how to increase their alliance index: a score that measures the degree to which a research proposal overlaps with the strengths of UOW

This online discussion forum enables academics to share resources or insights—on both supervision and research in general—that could assist their peers. For example, supervisors might
-
post links to videos, tutorials, or guidelines that might benefit students
-
disclose concerns or questions they would like other supervisors to answer
-
share insights they have recently discovered on how to solve a problem, such as how to assist candidates who disregard advice or do not write coherently.
Supervisors might be motivated to contribute towards this discussion group because they want to
-
help their colleagues and improve the university
-
demonstrate some of their skills—perhaps to foster collaborations
-
demonstrate their leadership capability to support promotion applications
-
encourage other supervisors to contribute as well
